We begin with an uphill drive through the beautiful scenery on the way to Pico do Carvão, our first viewpoint, and pause to enjoy one of the best views over the island. From the Lagoa do Canário we spy our first view of Sete Cidades caldera, and some of it's most beautiful lakes, Rasa and Santiago. We head to Vista do Rei to admire the twin lakes, before continuing on to the Sete Cidades settlement to get a closer look at the lakes. Our return journey passes by Mosteiros, a settlement built on a lava delta.
