Kirkwall Guided Shore Excursion 26th August

Delve into the past on our guided tour of Kirkwall. Our guide will lead you through The Broch of Gurness, a drystone building dating back to around 200BC, and tell what has been learned of this ancient structure and its old inhabitants since its unearthing in 1929. We then head to the centre of Orkney to view the stunning Ring of Brodgar, a landmark dating back to the early Bronze Age. Your guide will discuss possible theories about these ancient standing stones, and those like them across Britain. Were they a prehistoric meeting place, a method of mapping the heavens, or something stranger still?

Bergen: A Scenic Adventure Awaits 28th August

Explore Bergen, Norway's second largest city on this shore excursion. You’ll see Bergen’s most iconic sights, including the Art Nouveau theater “Den Nationale Scene”, the medieval Håkonshallen fortress, the renowned fish market, and of course, the UNESCO-listed Hanseatic quarter of Bryggen. The bus will also take you on a short trip to the surroundings of the beautiful Fantoft Stave Church. This church has a long and surprising history which is well worth discovering. The tour ends with a visit to the top of Mount Fløyen via funicular, where you will also find a restaurant, gift shops and friendly troll statuettes.

Next, head to the geothermal valley of Haukadalur, where you can watch the towering and breathtaking Strokkur geyser erupt. Enjoy lunch at the geyser area before continuing to the canyon of Hvita river. Admire the river as it rushes southward and plunges into a deep crevice at one of Iceland's most iconic locations, the majestic Gullfoss Waterfall.
